An abscess typically develops after an injury, when infection has entered the wound and is causing problems.

Normally you can expect to experience a combination of pain and soft swelling. If you do nothing and are healthy, your body will probably completely heal it on its own.

But if your immune system is not at a high level, the infection may just get worse and worse.

So it’s better to treat it in the early stages if you can.

Lets look at a common homeopathic medicine which will treat many abscesses.

The medicine is called Hepar sulphur and the symptoms which indicate its use are:

• very painful, won’t let anyone near it for fear of further pain
• soft swelling then bursts with yellow or green/yellow discharge which may be bloody

The typical pain of this medicine is stitching. And the typical smell of the discharge is of rotten cheese.

If an animal needs this medicine, it is likely to bite you when you try to look at the injured part. This is because of the pain. They just can’t tolerate pain. It’s a great indication of the medicine.

Some have a high pain tolerance. Those needing Hepar sulphur have an extremely low tolerance to pain.

The abscess can appear anywhere – dental, at the site of an injury, anywhere on the skin appearing as boils or carbuncles, internally and so forth.

Suggested potency (strength) is 6c. Suggested dosage is one dose every hour. If no relief is felt after about four doses, this may not be the right medicine.
