How do I stop feeling like I wanna barge everyone out of the way when walking down the street ?

With so many ppl on the streets, all coming for me, some hit in to me whilst some pass by me. I ensure no one who walks by me accidentally hits me, as I keep a physical barrier around me. Though when my barrier fails and someone touches me, I get mad. Sometimes I get openly aggressive and I boil over, afterwards I feel like a psychopath the way I act.. though at the time I cannot stop myself from acting this way …

Try taking your walk out at different times & on different days – chances are, unless you’re in a permanently busy city centre, that you are hitting a peak time & a natural sense of making no progress through wave upon wave of pedestrians all going in different directions all with their own worldly issues on their minds & the sense of slowing to a crawl being just as perplexing for them too, is the real issue…. First of all, be certain that under the circumstances you are being agile & fleet-footed, making for all the obvious gaps & accelerating through clearings wherever possible – then when you are held up by the impenetrable throng, that you are being patient and that you aren’t about to feel hemmed in, claustrophobic and inclined towards the potential outbursts if it can become stifling & close in a matter of moments….

When you are sure you are handling yourself through all this with the best conduct you can manage – again take a look at what it is like when you are inevitably navigating a dense crowd with no single purpose in direction or destination, and compare it to fewer people you can easily walk around or stroll behind along in time until you can pass….

It is likely the issues arising are quelled among fewer people, and worsening towards a shoulder to shoulder gridlock – so pick the best time for you in advance, & which may require learning it over several visits.

Most importantly – if you feel like you’re going to be the one to say something in the circumstances – then be the person ready to say, “I beg your pardon”, “Excuse me”, “Sorry”, “Oops, my apologies”, etc. as the general air of confident striding & going faster than everyone else is usually accompanied with such pleasantries as surely as an engine uses oil for smooth operation, and so get ready to say something in advance like you’re ringing a bell on a bicycle, and signal your intentions to make your way through, around and past in a faster way than the flow of the other pedestrians – usually just, “Excuse me please” will suffice and where you are even not out of place using your arm – without making contact as a signal – though in time with it’s natural swing-to-walk momentum -providing it is only there momentarily as you go around a person – i.e. they should not have to stop at all & you will not be cutting across their path as such, but then they will be aware of where you are and what you are doing and all the complications can be avoided – it really does require you are nimble & courteous though with the other absolute prerequisite being that you are also prepared to drop out of top gear cruising and take life in the slow lane again at a moment’s notice as the crowd condenses and progress is once again down to Post Office Giro queue.

There has been a ‘boiling point’ study – this could be valuable research and information for you to check out – but I reckon you are trying to go at a pace that suits the time and energy you have allotted, but in what must then seem like a world being lazy & ignorant – that’s the thing though, 99.99999% of people have no real idea of what your purpose is and so you can hardly expect to walk down a street and be noticed for all the right reasons which will effectively part the sea of bodies in your favour. It is here at this very juncture, each and every time it occurs, that you must exercise caution in just doing the first thing, instead asking, “is this appropriate?”, whereupon the answer is always, “hey, you could walk as fast as everyone else, swing your arms about aimlessly and catch a few elbows, brush a few shoulders, and generally finding you can relax because like everyone else for the moment – progress is nowhere fast…. & so use those moments – plot your course ahead, see where you can cross the road in advance, what else is coming this way, what shops you can browse for five minutes to get out of the thick of it…., certainly being less confrontational and more preoccupied with getting there – ideally still carrying your thoughts like fragile luggage instead of a potential battering ram….
