home remedies cure boils
Fellow singers, I have larangytis! I need to be better by Tuesday! Does anyone know of quick home remedies?
I’m a young teen, and have laryngitis. I can just barely talk in my normal voice, not even close to being able to sing though. The reason I’m mentioning singing is because I have voice lessons on Tuesday with the bestestestest coolest voice teacher in the world Meg, and I really don’t want to miss it because it’s only my third lesson.
For the past few days, I have experienced pain when swallowing, and a mild sore throat when talking. Today I woke up and I could only speak in a whisper, but now I can just barely talk. Also, I don’t feel ill besides my throat.
My ex-music teacher (I had her in elementary) suggests 1 cup apple cider, 1 tbs apple cider vinegar, 1 tbs oney, combine all ingridents, heat to boiling and sip like tea. Does that sound like it would cure my laryngitis? If anyone else has any tips or little things that could help, they would be very appreciated.
Many of these answers will make your throat feel better because they are warm & stuff, but…food or drink does not pass through the larynx. The part of the throat that these drinks are making feel better, is the part that swallows food.
That’s not to say that these things won’t help, though!
If the only part of your thoat that is swollen, irritated, etc is the back of your thoat & not your actual vocal cords, these things may work wonders for you.
However, if your actual larynx is inflamed, they may not do much good at all.
The honest, only true thing that will help heal your voice is rest. As hard as it is, that’s the best thing.
Now, a “quick fix” for inflamation that makes you lose your voice, is a steriod shot. It’s not highly reccommended since it can be abused & cause more harm than good, but here’s how it works:
The steriod shot brings down the inflamation. That helps your voice to work like normal again since the cords are no longer irritated. This is extremely effective. I once had ZERO voice the day of my Junior recital in college. I got a shot, took a long nap, & had full range by that evening.
BUT, this should only be done for emergency performance situations. Since the steriod shot only temporarily brings down the inflamation, your voice will be back to hurting after the shot wears off. You’re kind of tricking your voice into working correctly after the shot. You HAVE to let your voice rest for several days after the shot so that you don’t damage anything further. (think of it as a big pain killer for a sprained ankle or something…the pain killer masks the pain so you walk around like normal…then the meds wear off & WOW! You remember why you were taking them in the first place…walking around on the injured ankle just hurt it worse…)
Because of that reason, I would not think it wise to go that route just for a singing lesson. Too risky.
Sorry so long, but I just wanted to help!
Good luck!
