To reduce pain and inflammation, take aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen. Infected material penetrates deeper if squeezed, hence try to avoid doing so. Apply the anti-bacterial ointment over the boil, and cover it with sterile gauze bandage.

If you are prone to boils, you can prevent them by using the antibacterial agent in the bath daily. It is also important to keep the boil site very clean. Avoid sharing the bedding, towels or clothes with anyone so that the bacterial spread can be avoided.
